At the helm we have such luminaries as Heikki Sarmanto, Eino Virtanen, Kaj Backlund, Seppo Paakkunainen and Esa Pethman. Soloists include Juhani Aaltonen - saxophone; Olli Ahvenlahti - keyboards: Markku Johansson - trumpet & flugelhorn; Pentti Lahti - baritone sax; Pentti Lasanen - alto sax and Nono Soderberg - guitar.
Superb groovy seventies jazz of the highest order throughout culminating with the stone cold and break-heavy monster "Ufology". The text on the cover though plentiful is all in Finnish so I can't tell you any more so I'll let the music do the talking. Kindly enjoy...

ReplyDeleteFor your information: this album is impossible to find in finland since it was released only in small numbers and was sold out soon after release.
Kaj Backlund is the guy who wrote "No comments", and he is a walking encyclopedia of big band-music and writing for big band. I have had the pleasure of having him as my mentor for many years now.
Thanks for sharing this album, I have wanted to have it for ages, and even Kaj himself doesn't have a CD of it, only the old vinyl. He seems to be happy to know, that his music is still alive and kicking after all these years!
